Although the gifts the Magi brought to Jesus were not "traditional" in the way we might think of them, God has a purpose in these gifts, and each has a special aspect of who Jesus is. Particularly, myrrh is not something we would consider giving to a child, but it symbolizes the death Jesus would suffer to make salvation available to all mankind.
